Badges signal trust, but they're only part of the story. Understanding them - and the red flags fraudsters use - keeps you safe.
What the badges mean
| Badge | What it verifies | What it does NOT mean |
|---|---|---|
| Verified Seller | Seller's identity, track record and store quality | Item is guaranteed perfect - always still check the listing |
| Verified Pilot | Identity and delivery record | The person is immune to rules |
| Verified account | Identity was checked at sign-up (sellers & pilots) | The user is trustworthy for every order |
How verification really works
We verify with government-issued ID and selfie matching, review track records, and re-check periodically. Badges are issued by Seli only - nobody can pay to receive one.
Common scam red flags
- 'Send payment outside the app to avoid delivery fees' - always a scam; escrow doesn't exist off-platform.
- Links to fake 'payment' or 'tracking' pages - only use in-app emails and links.
- Too-good-to-be-true prices on new electronics from unverified accounts.
- Urgency pressure - 'pay now or someone else gets it'.
- Requests for your OTP, password or card PIN under any pretext.
What Seli will never ask
- Your password or OTP codes.
- Payment to 'unlock', 'verify' or 'release' funds.
- A 'verification fee' for the badge.
- Your card PIN, CVV or full card number in chat.
If you think you've been scammed
- Stop all further communication and payments.
- Report in-app and notify safety@seli.com.ng.
- If you paid on-platform, raise a claim on the order immediately.
- Contact your bank if card details were shared.
The badge checks the seller, not the item
Always watch the video, read the description and confirm with the seller in-app before buying - even from verified sellers.
